WASHINGTON D.C. –
In a high-stakes diplomatic maneuver, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is set to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington on Monday to discuss a direct "Peace Agreement" with Russia, a meeting that follows the recent summit between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska.

Reports indicate that during the Alaska summit, Putin demanded full control of the eastern Ukrainian regions of Donetsk and Luhansk as a condition for ending the three-year-old conflict. In return, Russia offered to freeze the front lines in the southern regions of Kherson and Zaporizhzhia, which are only partially under Russian control.

Zelenskyy has firmly rejected any deal involving ceding Ukrainian territory. In a post on X, he stated that a "real peace must be achieved" and that any resolution to the war must be decided with Ukraine’s participation. He also emphasized that he told Trump that sanctions on Russia should be "strengthened if there is no trilateral meeting or if Russia tries to evade an honest end to the war."

This meeting in Washington is a critical next step, as Trump has indicated he prefers a comprehensive peace deal over a temporary ceasefire. Both leaders have also signaled support for a potential trilateral meeting with Putin if the talks prove successful.

European leaders are also closely watching the developments. A "coalition of the willing" made up of British, French, and German leaders reportedly held a video call to coordinate their efforts before Zelenskyy's visit, reaffirming that Ukraine's borders must not be altered by force.
